The Movie

Orbis Series in 158 Parts, 13 Volumes

We have a good selection of these, mostly with magazine covers intact, and some issues without covers. Also a few binders.

There was some rather odd numbering of later issues which can cause confusion so please be careful, or enquire first, when ordering individual issues. Since writing this, a collector in Malta (with a set to sell if anyone is interested?) offers this explanation:-

Issues Nos. 133 to 144 are an illustrated who's who of the cinema. Issue no. 145 is "Index Part 1: Films" (pages 1-40).

Issues Nos. 146 to 158 are a continuation of the illustrated who's who. Issue No. 159 is "Index Part 2: General" (pages 1-40). However there is an error in the number on the cover: it is numbered as "156" when it should be "159".

145: Numbering Error?

Orbis appear to have made a mistake here. The page numbers from No 144 (p221-240) are followed by No 146 (p241-260). This causes great confusion, especially for sets which have had the magazine covers removed. If you are in any doubt, or if you have a series with different numbering, please let us into the secret. For clarification, the issues in the series we have listed are marked with a cover price 60p and a copyright date 1982. See also our note in the heading description of the series, and No 156 below.

146: Kinski - Lee, Christopher

147: Lee, Rowland - McGuire

148: McHugh - Metzner

149: Meyer, Russ - Newman, Alfred

150: Newman, Joseph - Pasolini

151: Passer - Quinn

152: Rademakers - Romm

153: Ronet - Shamroy

154: Sharaff - Stradling

155: Strasberg - Turner

156: Index Part 2 General

No idea why this appears here, sandwiched between certain issues of the Illustrated Who's Who. Apparently, it's an error and should really be Part 159. Pages 1-35 of this issue cover Names A-Z, Pages 36-44 cover Subjects A-Z. See also our note to Part 145 above.

157: Turpin - Weber

158: Wegener - Zukor

Full Set 'The Movie'

all 13 volumes, subject to availability

We currently do not have a complete set of 158 parts, all with magazine covers intact.

However, a collector in Malta has a set available. I doubt it would be worth the cost of sending it back to the UK but if anyone in another country is willing to pay the shipping cost, please get in touch via 'Contact'.
