Blues Collection (Orbis)

Orbis partwork from 1993 onwards

We have good stocks of this excellent series - magazines, CDs and cassettes. Even so, one or two titles are quite rare so, if you're after a full set, probably a good idea to check with us before ordering.

We have reorganised the catalogue so you can order items separately (CD, tape, mag). We try to indicate availability against the various options but at busy times we cannot guarantee this figure to be accurate. If no basket appears against a title, take that as a sign we are completely out of stock.

Finally, please be aware that - for reasons best known to themselves - Orbis issued several of these with the same title but a different position in the numbering system, mostly affecting the first 20 in the series. Some issues have 3 different numbers in the sequence! As far as we know, it doesn't affect the contents but if you want to keep your own collection in sync, you might need to ask us for a correctly numbered part.

If the availability figure for an item shows zero (0), this means we are out of stock at the present time. The figure in brackets indicates the number in stock, so please do not order more than that figure

!

1: John Lee Hooker

For a short time, we have the CD in limited edition folded cover (no jewel case). Please specify on your order form if you want this alternative (but don't be too surprised if it's already gone).

Another strange variation in the numbering!

9: Bessie Smith

Rare, this one. I suspect there may have been copyright problems. All good material too. In some collections, this appears as No 3. Don't think we've ever seen a mag.

We have a rare variation on this, with the same number but a folded cover instead of jewel case; for a limited time, you can order this as an alternative to the normal plastic case version but you'll need to go back to issue 10 to order the magazine.

14: Eric Clapton/Yardbirds

For a limited time, we also have the CD in a rare folded cover (no jewel case).

14*: Bessie Smith

15: Fats Domino

15*: John Mayall

Rare variation, CD in folded case.

49: Charlie Patton

50: Big Joe Turner

51: Tampa Red

52: Frank Frost

53: Sleepy John Estes

54: Jimmy Rogers

One of six issues not available in Australia, for legal reasons. Consequently these carry a high premium and are much in demand from collectors in that country.

55: Blind Boy Fuller

56: Johnny Copeland

57: Eddie Vinson

58: Eddie Boyd

One of six issues not available in Australia, for legal reasons. Consequently these carry a high premium and are much in demand from collectors in that country.

59: Champion Jack Dupree

60: Willie Dixon

One of six issues not available in Australia, for legal reasons. Consequently these carry a high premium and are much in demand from collectors in that country.

61: Furry Lewis & Frank Stokes

62: Screamin' Jay Hawkins

63: Robert Nighthawk & Forrest City Joe

One of six issues not available in Australia, for legal reasons. Consequently these carry a high premium and are much in demand from collectors in that country. This one is very scarce - you may be lucky to find us with anything in stock.

64: Professor Longhair

65: Victoria Spivey

66: Jimmy McCracklin

Apparently, there was a copyright issue on this one and it was recalled, so it is difficult to find. This is also one of six issues not available in Australia, also for legal reasons. Consequently these carry a high premium and are much in demand from collectors around the world.

67: Magic Slim

68: Piano Red

83: Jimmy Johnson

A bit rare this one - there was a mis-press of Eddie Vinson sent out with the Jimmy Johnson label on; a replacement was available but not all collectors bothered to obtain it, so the correct CD now commands a higher price. If you really want it, we can usually supply the CD mis-press.

84: East Coast Blues

85: Mance Lipscomb

86: Leroy Carr

87: Johnny Shines

This one is rather scarce too. We're not entirely sure why.

88: Cecil Gant
