Cooking styles and tastes have changed a great deal since the 1970s when this series appeared, but basic techniques are much the same as they've ever been. This classic collection in 112 weekly parts can still knock spots of some of Delia's latest efforts. It has weekly features on Basic Cookery, Fruit and Vegetables, Meat & Fish, Baking, Star Recipe, Kitchen know-how and other general themes.
But it's all rather confusing because there has been more than one edition of the series. Our listing shows what we believe is the 2nd edition from the late 70s. The 1st edition was launched in the mid 70s and described as "The step-by-step guide to better cooking in 84 weekly parts" (ie 6 volumes of 14 parts). It proved so popular that Marshall Cavendish decided to extend the series by a further 2 volumes (7 & 8) making a total of 112 issues. Part 84 (in the 1st Edition) is a full Index to the first 6 volumes, part 112 contains an Index to the last two volumes of the extended set.
The listing on our website is based on the second edition. As far as we can tell, the content is identical but the arrangement or titles and numbering is different, with a Full Index appearing at the end of the 2nd series in issue 112. If you are unsure which edition you have, the 1st Edition has a cover price of 40p, the 2nd Edition was 50p.
If the titles don't quite match your expectations, it's likely you have the 1st Edition. We probably have individual magazines to meet your requirement but you may have to tell us to find the appropriate mags for your Edition.
